May 12, 2018 STEVEN WITTENBACH, 69 Steven M. Wittenbach, 69, from Apopka, Fla., formally of Ionia, passed away Friday, April 20, 2018. Steve was a graduate of Lowell High School class of 1966 and a 30 year retiree from General Motors (Fisher Body Plant). As a young man he was raised on a dairy farm in Alto, until duty called him to serve our country in Vietnam from 1969-1971. After his tour ended he returned to Michigan. Steve and his wife Karen married on Nov. 20, 1970, and began their family eventually settling in Ionia. Steve was known to many as a "Volunteer problem solver" and a man with advice for anyone who would listen to him for hours. Steve insisted on visiting with family and friends as often as he could, he also enjoyed talk radio, food, antique tractors and his grandchildren. As a retiree Steve and Karen traveled often and spent summers in Michigan and winters in Florida, they soon realized that the Orlando area would become more permanent, only then visiting Michigan in shorter stays, when weather permitted. Steve was preceded in death by his wife Karen (Miller), his parents George and Barbara Wittenbach, one sister Paula K. Wittenbach, In-laws Robert and Lorraine Miller and one brother-in-law Robert Miller. Surviving are his daughter, Cheri (Jim) Baker of Apopka, Fla., and son, Scott (Tina) Wittenbach of Ionia, five grandchildren Steven (Chelsea) Baker, Christian (Lindsey) Baker, Mitchell (girlfriend Breanna Creekmore) Baker, Dillyn and Alex Wittenbach, one great-grandson Jace Baker along with seven brothers, one sister, and many nieces and nephews.
