Oct. 11, 1951 Mrs. Sarah A. Welker, 67, a former Ionia resident for many years, died about noon Wednesday, October 10, at Liberal, Kas., on the train while enroute home from Tucson, Ariz. , where she want in February for her health with her daughter, Gertrude. Her daughter was accompanying her mother home. Before leaving Tucson, Mrs. Welker had been hospitalized for a week. She was born in Houghton county May 5, 1884, the daughter of Charles and Josephine Beatty. She was married to Clark Welker September 12, 1911, in Houghton county and moved to Ionia shortly after their marriage and had lived here since. He died March 31, 1951. She was a member of St. John’s Episcopal church. Surviving are one son, Clark, of Benton Harbor; two daughters, Gertrude of Ionia and Mrs. Ed Coon of Midland; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mrs. George Koronski of Bessemer. Funeral services will be conducted at St. John’s Episcopal church Saturday at 2 p.m. with the rector, the Rev. Fr. John G. Carlton, officiating. Interment will be in the family lot. Balcom cemetery. The body will arrive Friday at 3:18 p.m. in Lansing accompanied by Miss Gertrude Welker. It will repose at the Boynton funeral home until time of service. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Friday to see friends.
