Ionia Sentinel Standard, 2002

Johannes G. Wolthuis, 95, passed away Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002 in Ionia.  He was 
born April 17, 1907 in Holland, the son of Gerrit and Marie (Steghuis) 
Wolthuis.  He married Fern Young, in Ionia, in June of 1936, who preceded him 
in death in 1992.  He was a life member of Masonic Lodge of Lyons, Eastern Star 
of Lyons, Royal Arch of the Masons and North Plains Church.

He is survived by his sons, Richard (Ruth Ann) Wolthuis of Ionia, William 
(Lois) Wolthuis of Ionia, Russell (Rosemary) Wolthuis of Ionia and Charles 
(Jean) Wolthuis of Ionia; daughter Evelyn (David) Ransom of Ionia; sister, 
Fredericka Burgage of Florida; sister-in-law, Rowena Dorn of Florida; 17 
grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by four 
brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday at North Plains Community 
Church with Rev. Robert Jourdan officiating.  Interment of ashes North Plains 
Cemetery.  Anyone wishing may make contributions to North Plains Community 
Church or Ionia County Commission on Aging.  Envelopes are available at Lake 
Funeral Home in Ionia.
