KATHRYN WOLVERTON FATALLY INJURED IN TRACTOR ACCIDENT
Kathryn Wolverton, ten year old daughter of Richard and Pauline Wolverton, was
fatally injured Friday forenoon, when the tractor on which she and her brother Randy, 13,
were riding left the road and tipped over in a ditch. The accident happened on Harwood
road about 3 miles from the Wolverton farm on Musgrove highway. The children were
returning home from the John Sarlouis farm on US-16 where the father was working, and both 
children were pinned under the tractor when it overturned. Randy was able to free
himself and started down the road for help when he met Francis Goodemoot who stopped and 
asked what the trouble was and when told returned to the scene but was unable to
remove the child. After notifying the father who with Mr. Sarlouis removed the girl and
brought her to the local doctors office where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Coroner Neil
Phelps of Ionia and State Police were called. Death was caused by a skull fracture,
according to Coroner Phelps.

Randy was taken to Pennock Hospital where it was found he suffered a fractured
shoulder 
and bruises. His condition is reported as satisfactory.

Kathryn  would have been eleven years old June 11 and had completed the fifth grade
in 
the local school.

Surviving besides her parents and brother are maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs.
George 
First of Orleans and paternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wolverton of Orange 
township.

Funeral services were held Monday at 1:30 at the Methodist Church with burial in
lakeside 
Cemetery. Rev. Paul Robinson officiated.
