Nov. 2, 2017 GARY WOLVERTON, 77 Gary Edward Wolverton, 77. of Muir, passed away Oct. 31, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born Aug. 26, 1940 in Greenville, the son of Don and Edrie (Brand) Wolverton. He graduated Lyons High school in May 1959. Gary went on to marry the love of his life Charlene Joan Andrews February 27, 1960 in Muir. He would serve his country by joining the U.S. Navy in Aug. 4, 1959, where he served for 4 years active duty and another four in the reserves. Gary Worked for Clorwell Electric for two years. Then started working at TRW in Portland for 32 years before retiring in 1997. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Muir. He was also a member of the Lyons-Muir Lions Club for ten years along with being a village council member. He started working with the Scouts in 1997 and made Scout Master on July 12, 2000. He received Award of Merit Badge on May 2, 2002. He later turned Scout Master over to his son Tony Wolverton. He also had the honor of Grand Marshall in Muir for the Island Festival, along with his wife Charlene. Gary loved to hunt and fish. Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years Charlene Wolverton of Muir. Children; Laura (Luke) Newman of Lyons, Tony (SallY) Wolverton of Muir and Shelly (Fred) Bowman of St. Johns. Grandchildren; Shanna (Tyler) Simon, Nathsha (Robbie) Jerome, Cylan (Kelcye) Emmons, Matthew LaSarge, Gary (Kayla) Wolverton, Trenton (Mackenzie) Wolverton, Ashey (Andy) Faivor, Brandon (McKenzie) Wickham, Kayla Wickham, Jordon Simmon, Logon Simmon and 15 great- grandchildren. Brothers Gale Moehring of Belding, Bruce (Willedean) McMillan of Toledo, Ohio, sister Margie Ford of Detroit and sister-in-law Sandy Moehring of Anderson, S.C. Also surviving are many brother and sister-in-laws that he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Lee McMillan and Gordon Moehring, sister Marlene Hartman, grandson Nathon Simon and great-grandson Blake LaSarge. Funeral service for Gary will be held Saturday, Nov. 4 at 11 a.m. at the First Christian Church in Muir with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Interment Oakwood cemetery in Muir. Visitation will be at the Lake funeral Home in Ionia on Friday, Nov.3, from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Lyons-Muir Fire Dept. First Christian Church of Muir.
