Scott Wood was very largely attended this afternoon from the residence on East Washington street at 2 o’clock. The house was filled with sorrowing friends and a large number of Ionia’s business men attended the last services for one who had been prominent in their ranks for many years. The funeral sermon was preached by Rev. A. R. Mitchell, who was assisted in the service by Rev. Cyrus Mendenhall. Thane Benedict and Dr. L. W. Yates sang. A large number of beautiful floral tokens were received from friends and various organizations. Members of the Knights Templar to the number of 30 met at the temple and marched to the house where they attended the service as the escort from the Masonic order. The casket was placed in the Wager mausoleum in Highland Park cemetery. Business houses generally throughout the city were closed this afternoon from 2 to 3 in respect to the memory of O. Scott Wood. The Ionia Electric Co. shut off the current in the entire city for a few moments at 2 o’clock. The Ionia circuit court closed at noon and the jury was dismissed for the afternoon, Judge Davis and others attending the funeral. Among those who were here to attend the funeral were Mrs. Heman Lowe, of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Ada Castro, of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hamilton and son, of Lansing; Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Mercer of Grand Rapids; Mrs. Manley of Grand Rapids; Wm. A. Smith and son, Glenn and daughter of Greenville; Mrs. Fred Holmes and son of Belding; Mr. and Mrs. Chapple, Mr. and Mrs. Osterhouse of Belding; Grove A. Wright of Detroit, and Mrs. Claude Faude of Grand Rapids. Mayor Green issued the following proclamation yesterday as a result of which business in Ionia was generally suspended for an hour this afternoon: “O Scott Wood, for 40 years in active business in Ionia, has been called from this life. it is deemed a well earned tribute to close the business houses of the city for the hour during the funeral, 2 to 3 o’clock on Wednesday. At the instance of many of the business men, therefore, I request the merchants of Ionia to close their places of business during said hour.” Fred W.
