Wood died at 5:30 Tuesday afternoon at the City Hospital as the result of the terrible burns received in a steam retort at the Ypsilanti Reed factory that same noon. He was conscious when first brought to the hospital, but he suffered so terribly that he was immediately put under opiates. It was realized that recovery was practically impossible, but death was not expected quite so soon as it came. At the time of his death his mother, Mrs. Louis Wood, who has been in Grand Rapids part of the winter, was fortunately in the city. Miss Leola Wood is also here, and Delmar Wood, who expects to be called into military service soon. Mr. Wood was 34 years old. He was born in Grand Rapids, and moved here with the others of the family about 15 years ago. The father was Will C. Wood. At the time the family came here it consisted only of the present members—Mrs. Wood and her three children. Oden Wood worked for a time in the Pere Marquette shops and later on worked outside the city. It was a little more than a year ago that he returned to Ionia and began work with the Ypsilanti Reed. He was married a few years after coming here to Miss Lydia Shelley, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. D. H. Shelley, who lived only a few years after their marriage. Later he married Nolle Ferguson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Ferguson, who also died after their marriage had lasted about three years. His home since had been with his mother, the family of four living together in the home at 340 King street. The funeral service was held at the Church of Christ Thursday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. C. C. Buckner officiating. Rev. E. E. Branch will also be here if possible to assist in the service. The Masons and Odd Fellows will attend in a body, and the Ypsilanti Reed factory will be closed in the afternoon so that the employees there can attend also. Burial will be in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery.
