All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/mi/mifiles.htm ************************************************ File contributed for use in USGenWeb Archives by: Marilyn Ransom mlnransom@chartermi.net July 25, 2013, 3:19 pm The Belding Banner-News, Wednesday, June 8, 1921 Willis Wood was born in Genesee county, New York, June 13th, 1840, and departed this life at the age of eighty years, eleven months and two weeks and six days, at the state hospital at Kalamazoo, Mich. He enlisted in the army on the 12th day of October, 1861 in Company F., 64th Regiment, New York, Infantry Volunteers and served three years, was honorable discharged on October 18, 1864. He was united in marriage to Miss Julia Legg on November 13th, 1864 who departed this life on December 11, 1875. To this union was born two children. On May 24, 1882 he was united in marriage to Isabelle McClanathan, who preceded him to the great beyond September 12th, 1917. To this union was born five children. He was converted at an early age and joined the Free Methodist church at the age of 46 years of which he was a respected member at the time of his death. He was a kind and indulgent husband and father. He leaves to mourn their loss seven children, five sons and two daughters: Wilbur and Frank Wood and Mrs. Hattie Webber of this city; Thad, of Ionia; Lewis of Toledo, Ohio, Mrs. Rose McNaughton, of Lansing, Leonard, of West Point, N.Y., and a step son, Eugene Ball, of Ludington, La.; one brother, one sister, eight grandchildren and a host of friends. Funeral services were held at the Free Methodist church Monday afternoon, Rev. J. A. Hudnutt, of Grand Rapids, officiating, assisted by Rev. A. L. Haywood and Rev. B. T. Hicks.
