He was born Aug. 15, 1909 in New York, the son of James and Charlotte Wood. He served 3½ in the Air Force during World War II. He also worked 20 years for General Tire, retiring in 1974. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion in Saranac. Surviving are his wife, Ethel; one son, Mike Wood of Ionia; six grandchildren; two brothers, Louis Abbey and Herbert Abbey of New York. He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be Friday at the Cook Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Sayers officiating. Burial will be in Easton Cemetery. Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Rich Street Chapel of Cook Funeral Home. A memorial has been established for Ionia County Memorial Hospital, in care of the funeral home. -------- Funeral services for Elmer J. Wood of Ionia were held Friday afternoon from the Cook Funeral Home with Rev. James Sayers officiating. Organist was Josephine Barna. Pallbearers were Raymond Glossi, Bill Beachnaw, Don Beachnaw, Elmer Miles, Tom Coulter and Bob Talcutt. Burial was in Easton Cemetery. Following services, luncheon was served to family and friends at Easton Township Hall.
