July 18, 2013 Murdon "Woody" James Wood, 82, of Matherton passed away in Royal Oak, MI, on July 15, 2013. Born November 12, 1930, in Matherton, MI his parents were Bertha (Allen) and Lewis Wood. Woody married the love of his life Patricia Harlan on December 6, 1955, in Corpus Christi, TX. In 1947 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, retiring August 1, 1968, as Chief Petty Officer. In 1969 "Woody" started his career at Dep. of Correction in Ionia. He retired in 1986. He then started at Indian Trails Charters driving bus which was his last job before he finally retired. Woody was preceded in death by his wife Pat, daughter Cathleen Wood, parents Lewis and Bertha Wood, sisters and brothers-in-law Maxine and Keith Fenn, Patricia and Harold Loucks, and Margaret and Bruce Proctor; brother and sister-in-law Allan and Doris Wood; and sister-in-law Patricia Wood. He is survived by daughters; Sheri (Jim) Wheelock of Eagle and Danette Wood of Matherton; sons; Michael Wood of Matherton, Mark Wood of Allendale, and Martin (Kimmie) Wood of Fenwick; grandchildren: Jim Badder of Eagle, Jaclyn Badder of Westphalia, Bridget Wood of Matherton and Katelyn Peiffer and Tristan Peiffer of Hubbardston; and great granddaughter, Bonnie Badder of Eagle. He is also survived by his brother, Herbert Wood of Lansing; sister-in-law, Roberta "Dee-Dee" (Breymann) Buerger of Beeville, TX; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. Funeral services for "Woody" will be held Friday, July 19, 2013, 11 A.M. at Lake Funeral Home of Ionia with Pastor Greg Gladding officiating. Interment East Plains Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 2-4 P.M. and 6-8 P.M. at the funeral home. Friday 1 hour prior to funeral service. Memorial contributions may be made to Beaumont Foundation.
