Mr. Wood was born at Jonesville, Mich. 72 years ago, and his early days were spent in Portland. He was a son of Lucian Wood, for years a well known resident of Portland. Mr. Wood, at time of his death, was operating the Oceanside Hotel and was one of the city's best known residents. Funeral services were held Wednesday at Maywood, a suburb of Los Angeles. Mr. Wood became widely known in California by a plan he advanced for organization of an economic movement to do away with money and substitute a system of credits. He was a master of figures through many years as a statistician, and a student of business trends and influences. Mr. Wood evolved a far-spreading plan, which he believed would avoid a recurrence of depressions and had incorporated the movement under title of the National Party. As a young man Mr. Wood became a telegraph operator, his first job having been at St. Joseph, Michigan. He followed railroading for years and later, at St. Paul, became an extensive grain, stock and bond broker. He went to California in 1929. His widow survives and there is a son, Leighton Wood, and a daughter, Mrs. G.W. Erie, both of whom live in the West. George W. Wood, former well known Portland resident is a brother. He resides at Coronado. Mr. Wood attended school in Portland as a boy, and was known locally as an expert bicycle rider.
