Sentinel-Std. - Thursday, 12 Feb. 1948

William P. Wood, 65,  Belding merchant, dropped dead in Louisville, 
Kentucky, Wednesday evening, February 11 about 7 o'clock.

The party left Wednesday morning. The planned to spend their first night in 
Louisville, Kentucky, and had just left a Louisville restaurant when Wood 
fell with a heart attack. He was rushed to a hospital but he was pronounced 
dead upon arrival. Mr. Wood had been in poor health for several months.

His body will arrive in Belding Friday or Saturday where it will repose at 
the Ellis funeral home. Mr. and Mrs. Whortley and Mr. Wood are expected to 
arrive in Belding Thursday evening.

Mr. Wood was born in Matherton December 7, 1882. He had been a resident of 
Belding for over 40 years. He first worked in Belding as a salesman for 
Belding Brothers Silk company. He then became a clerk and later manager for 
Abe Friedman in his clothing store for 25 years. Ten  years ago he opened 
his own store, Woods Men's Wear. He was married in 1913 to Nellie Schumanski 
of Alpena. 

He was a member of the Belding F&AM of the Belding Chamber of Commerce and 
the Silver Lake Country club.

Surviving him besides his wife are two sons, Robert F. Wood and William P. 
Wood, jr., and one brother, Frank A. Wood of Detroit.
