Word was received here late Wednesday evening of the tragic death of William P.Wood, Sr. at about 7 p.m. in Louisville, KY. The Wood had left this city Wednesday morning, enroute to Florida with Mr. and Mrs.Glenn E.Wortley and had stopped at Louisville for the night. the two couples had been to a restaurant for the evening meal and Bill was stricken with what was thought to be a heart attack as they were leaving the restaurant. An ambulance was called and doctors reported the esteemed Belding clothing merchant dead on arrival at the hospital. Mr.Wood was one of the oldest merchants on Main Street, in point of service, and his genial spirit will be greatly missed by his fellow merchants and the thousand of people in this are who looked to him when buying clothes. The body is expected to arrive in Grand Rapids Friday where it will be met by T.Victor Ellis, of the Ellis Funeral Home, who will have charge of the service. The time of the service will await the arrival of Mrs.Wood and the Wortleys today. Mr.Wood is survived by his widow,Nellie; two sons, Robert and William Jr., and a brother, Frank, of Detroit.
