M. S.) IONIA SENTINEL-STANDARD, MICH., 7-20-1933, front page: "AGED WOMAN DIES AFTER AUTO CRASH - Mrs. Anna Wood Thrown From Brother's Car in Front of Wood's Corners Home Wednesday Evening. - Mrs. Anna Wood, aged about 80 years, died in the Ionia hospital at 11:15 Wednesday night, as the result of injuries received in an automobile accident on M-14 in front of the John Wood home at Woods Corners, earlier in the evening. Mrs. Wood sustained a fractured skull when she was thrown from the touring car in which she was riding and struck her head on the pavement. The accident happened about 9:30 as John Wood, driving his car with his sister as a passenger, attempted to turn into the driveway at his home, making a left turn. An automobile coming from the south, driven by W. D. Campbell, of Middleville, and the Wood automobile came together. The Campbell automobile turned over and was damaged, but neither occupant was hurt nor was John Wood, whose car lost a front wheel but was not otherwise much damaged. Mrs. Wood was the widow of Marvin Wood and since the death of her husband has lived with her brother at the Woods Corners home. They had attended the funeral of Ebenezer Robinson, a cousin, Wednesday afternoon and were returning from the home of Charles Brooks, where they have spent the evening. Mrs. Wood was born in Ronald township. She was the daughter of Horace Wood, of Woods Corners, and the granddaughter of John Wood, of New York, who came here a pioneer, locating in Ronald township with his eight sons. Each of the sons became a real estate agent near Woods Corners or Woodard lake, which bears the Wood family name. Much of her married life was spent on a farm at Greenville, where her husband, M. S. Wood, died last November, and where her youngest son, Earl, and his wife died within a week of each other during the influenza epidemic. Her oldest son, Arthur, died in February, leaving one son, Charles, of Greenville, her only grandchild. She also leaves the brother, John, and a sister, Mrs. William Robertson, of Lyons. A few months ago she sold her farm and came back to live with her brother, John, on the homestead of her father. Recent months had seen many improvements about the home which she was having repaired and remodeled in which to spend happily the closing days of her life. She was a member of the Greenville Congregational church and a worker in it's auxillaries. Funeral services will be held at the Boynton funeral chapel Friday afternoon, aat 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Orleans cemetery. An inquest was asked for by Coroner Orin Stone into the death of Mrs. Wood. The jury, composed of William Stowell, Amil Dreger, A. P. Smith, George Conkey, Walter Pease, and Otto Schnick, brought in a verdict that the accident was unavoidable. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brusge and Russell Morse were witnesses examined."
