Searching parties worked constantly from about 2:00 in the afternoon until 12:30 at night, resuming the quest Monday morning. The body was found at about 9:30 o’clock about 1-2 mile below the ford. It is thought it had drifted with the current during the night. Mr. Wooden had been fishing in the same spot nearly all day. Jesse Baker, of Sebewa, was fishing up the stream not far from him but did not hear any splash of water caused by the body falling into the river. As Charles and Edward, sons of Leslie G. Cook, were coming down the river, they discovered the fact that Mr. Wooden was missing. Upon reaching the old gentleman’s boat they found his fish pole, and upon the line a live minnow. The boys went at once to the home of Fred Kelly, not far distant, and told them of their discovery. Harry Kelley immediately spread the news about the neighborhood and soon a large number of people were on the river banks. A searching party was immediately formed, but gave up the work at about 12:30 o’clock, resuming the search Monday morning. Mr. Wooden had lived in this vicinity nearly all of his life. Of late he had complained of attacks of heart trouble and this is believed to have been the cause of death. He is survived by a wife, who resides at Petoskey, a brother, Truman Wooden, and a son and daughter, Arthur Wooden, of Petoskey and Mrs. Ed. Compton, of Mulliken.
