Woodin, a young man about nineteen years of age, whose father lives in the township of Danby, was killed at Curtis’ camp on the Chippewa River, on Monday of last week, under the following circumstances, as near as we have been able to ascertain. He and another man had been engaged in sawing with a cross-cut saw, and were at the time of the accident, waiting for the saw to be filed. Others were engaged in felling trees near by, one of which fell in the direction of Mr. Woodin. He saw the tree as it was falling, and sprang from his position, taking refuge behind a small tree close at hand. The tree in falling, however, struck another tree and was thrown from its course, directly upon the one by which he was standing, the two main limbs passing down each side of it. Mr. Woodin made an attempt to get out of the way, but had not time, and was struck upon the side of the chest and felled to the earth; he arose, and at first his injuries did not seem to be of a serious nature. He was taken to the camp, and seemed to be able to help himself considerable. It was soon apparent however, that he was badly hurt internally, and a person was dispatched for a doctor, and others for a feather bed, but before the physician arrived Mr. Woodin had expired. His remains were taken to Saginaw, and there put aboard the cars, arriving here on Wednesday.
