Woods, 88 years of age, one of the few remaining veterans of the Civil war, and a member of William H. Borden post G.A.R., of Ionia, died in the Soldiers’ home hospital Sunday afternoon at 2:30, where he had been taken when his failing health made it apparent that the end was not far distant. The body was brought to Ionia Sunday evening and the funeral services will be held from the Bradley funeral home, on West Washington street, Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock with Rev. F. J Fitch in charge of the service. Interment will be in the Highland park mausoleum until spring. Mr. Woods had been a well-known resident of Ionia since he came here in 1880 and he had lived here until his failing health, subsequent to the death of his wife in May, 1929, decided him to go to the Soldiers’ home in Grand Rapids. He was a native of Brookville, Pa., and came to Michigan in 1880 with his wife settling here. For nearly a half century Mr. and Mrs. Woods lived in their home on Lafayette street, where they celebrated their golden anniversary July 4, 1924. The first home which Mr. woods built himself when he came to Ionia burned down and he immediately built another, in which they lived until Mrs. Woods’ death and his departure for Grand Rapids when it was sold. Mr. woods enlistee in Co. K, 128th Ohio infantry, December 17, 1863 and was mustered out of the service July 13, 1865. During the time that he had resided in Ionia Mr. woods was one of the most loyal member of William H. Borden post G.A.R. and always took an active part in its functions. He has served it as an officer for many years. He was also a tireless worker in Lucullus lodge, Knights of Pythias, which he served faithfully, and was affiliated with the Ionia Elks. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lulu Bodie, of Columbus City, Woods, of Mishawaka, Indiana.
