Thomas Woodworth, 25 Pewano, Mich., a carpenter, died in a police ambulance in Detroit, Tuesday morning while being rushed to Harper hospital following the collapse of a scaffold on which he was working at Seminole and Warren avenues. Woodworth’s brother-in-law, Dr. Thomas, 107 Windermere avenue, Highland Park, placed him in charge of a new house he was erecting at that place. Timber for the scaffolding was delivered Monday afternoon. Dr. Thomas declared it unsafe and ordered it discarded. New timber was ordered but Woodworth is said to have disobeyed his brother-in-law’s instructions and employed the condemned planking in building the scaffold. While working on the scaffold with George Siebrook, 285 Sixth street, the timber collapsed and Woodworth and his companion were thrown to the ground. Siebrook escaped with a few bruises, but Woodworth’s skull was fractured and his ribs broken. Coroner Burgess took charge of the body which will be sent to his home in Pewano for burial. There will be no inquest. Woodworth was residing here with a brother, William H. Woodworth, of 385 Alger avenue. Besides the brother, he is survived by a sister and an aged mother.
