Wesley Worden Passes Away

Has Been a Resident of Ionia Since 1856 When He Came From Detroit.

Worked For Many Years in Shops of Pere Marquette – Was One of the Oldest 
Members of Masons and Oddfellows in This City – Funeral Thursday.

Wesley W. Worden, who has been a resident of Ionia for over half a century died 
Monday evening about five o’clock at his residence on East Washington street.  
He would have been 67 years of age in May and has been ill since about 
Christmas time.  Hardening of the arteries caused his death.  Mr. Worden has 
been in poor health for about two years during which time he has been cared for 
by his daughter, Cassie.

Mr. Worden, who was the son of E. P. Worden, came to Ionia from Detroit with 
his parents about 1856.  Since then he has been a resident here following the 
trade of a painter.  He followed his work as a sign and house painter until the 
establishment of the D. L. and N. shops here when he entered the employ of that 
road.  He worked for them steadily until he was taken ill.
He was a member of the Mason and Oddfellows.  In December, Mr. Worden was made 
an honorary member of the Masons for long service.  He joined the Oddfellows in 
February, 1872.  He was one of the oldest members of those organizations.  Mr. 
Worden leaves one daughter, Cassie; one brother, ?sius, in Lansing; a sister, 
Mrs. Strong, of Greenville; and a sister, Mrs. A. O. Freeman, of this city.

The funeral will be attended on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 from the house on 
East Washington street.
