Worden were brought here at 11 o’clock Saturday morning from Greenville. They were accompanied by an escort of six from Eureka lodge, No. 91, of Greenville, and were met at the train by an escort from Ionia lodge, No. 175, I.O.O.F. and escorted to the residence. The funeral services for the late Ensign P. Worden were held Sunday afternoon from the Presbyterian church and were largely attended. Rev. D. A. Jewell delivered a feeling discourse. Members to the number of 40 of Ionia Loge No. 175, I.O.O.F., attended in a body and conducted the services at Highland Park. About 20 masons also attended the services at the church and there was a good representation of the D. of R. The remains were laid to rest by the following oddfellows: J.W. Peake, Chas. S. Cook, Webster Warner, R. D. Cain and Messrs. Maynard and Perry. Ensign P. Worden was born at Mayfield, Montgomery county, New York, April 3, 1815, making him 80 years of age the third of the present month. Moving in his youth to Ohio, Erie county, in 1834, he located to Buffalo, and in 1837 to Detroit. In 1859 he came to this city where he has since resided. In 1838 he was married to Nancy Norris, at Redford, Mich., and three children were born them, who with the wife survive him. The children are L. Cass Worden of Dixon, Ill., formerly of Muskegon, Alice F., wife of Henry F. Strong of Greenville, and Wesley W. Worden of this city. Mr. Worden joined Michigan lodge I.O.O.F., No. 1 of Detroit, March 3, 1845, and in 1871 joined Ionia Lodge, No. 175, I.O.O.F. He was also a well known Mason, joining Detroit lodge No. 2, F. and A.M. Dec. 4, 1849, and a few years later Ionia lodge, No. 36. At the time of his death he was at Greenville visiting his daughter where he suffered a third stroke of paralysis. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Ionia and a man much respected by all who knew him. He was one of Ionia’s pioneers and adds one more to the long list who have been carried away during the past year.
