Wortley, 83, a life long resident of Lake Odessa and retired business man, died Sunday evening at Pennock hospital, several hours after admittance, following a long illness. Mr. Wortley was born May 6, 1883 in Campbell township and was the son of Joseph and Elizabeth Lepard Wortley. In 1901 he began work for George Weed furniture and funeral business. He married Urah Baine in 1905 and bought the furniture and funeral business in 1924. He formed a partnership with Frederick Baine in 1926 and it was sold to Clare Pickens on January 1, 1946. He continued to assist in the business part time until about a year ago. Mr. Wortley was a member of the Methodist church 56 years and Lake Odessa Lions club. Surviving are his wife, Urah, three daughters, Mrs. Glen Edwins, Lake Odessa, Mrs. Maynard Leak of Lansing, and Mrs. George Moon of Flint; two grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a brother, William Wortley of Lake Odessa and five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Cunningham, Mrs. Charles Darby and Mrs. Cleo Sears of Lake Odessa, Mrs. Mary Campbell of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Laurence Lundberg of Flint. Funeral and committal services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Pickens funeral chapel in Lake Odessa. Rev. Luther Brokaw will officiate with burial in Lakeside cemetery.
