Nellie L. Wortman, 84, of 931 West Main street, retired school teacher died at 
6 o'clock Tuesday evening at an Ionia rest home.

She was born Jun 17, 1878 in Palo, the daughter of Charles E. and Lydia 
Wortman, and had resided in Ionia since 1945.

A school teacher for many years, Miss Wortman taught in Bryan Ohio five years 
and received her MA degree from University of Michigan in 1907.  She taught 28 
years at Stadium high school in Tacoma Wash, where she became head of the 
deparment of foreign language.

She returned to Michigan in 1945 and resided with her sister, Bernice, now 
deceased.

Survivors include a brother; John N. Wortman of Northville; two nieces and one 
cousin.

Funeral service will be held at Boyton funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. the Rev. 
Wilfred G. Sawyler, pastor of First Presbyterian church, will officiate and 
interment will be at Palo cemetery.
