WORTMAN, AGED RESIDENT PASSES AWAY Although Born in new York, Former Reformatory Guard Had Lived in County for Nearly 70 Years. Charles E. Wortman, a resident of Ionia county for the past 69 years, died at his West Main street home Friday afternoon at 6 o'clock. Mr. Wortman was a native of Wayne County, New York, and was born there in June, 1854, and came to Ionia with his parents when he was five years of age. They settled near Palo, and here the youth was reared and lived until 20 years ago, when he located to Ionia, taking a position as a keeper at the Michigan reformatory. Before coming to Ionia to make his home he drove the state on the line between Ionia and Palo. He was a member of the Masonic order. In April, 1926, he and Mrs. Wortman quietly observed their golden wedding anniversary, and the latter and five children survive him. They are Fred and Bernice of Ionia; Nellie and Harry of Washington; and Clifford, of Detroit The funeral services will be held at the home Sunday afternoon at 2:30 and burial will take place in Palo.
