Ionia County News, 29 Dec 1921

Burial services were held Monday for Thomas Wright, the unfortunate Portland
youth, whose death occurred Saturday from burns received when he attempted to
revive a fire in the kitchen range at the home of his uncle, Charles Lockwood,
with kerosene oil.  The explosion ignited the boy’s clothing, who ran screaming
from the house, eluding his mother, and before his uncle could reach him and
extinguish the flames he was terribly burned, death resulting 24 hours later. 
The force of the explosion wrecked the interior of the house and was the second
fatal accident of this nature to happen at Portland within the past six weeks.

[Transcriber's Note:  There is a notation on the obituary card that he was
buried in Portland Cemetery.]
