Dec. 8, 1915 CHARLES C. WRIGHT PIONEER OF BELDING Died at His Home on Ellis Avenue Last Thursday. Charles C. Wright, a resident here for more than seventy years, died at his home on West Ellis avenue at about four o’clock last Thursday afternoon, aged 73 years and 13 days. About the middle of last month, Mr. Wright had the misfortune to fall from a scaffold in his barn to the floor below, a distance of several feet, striking on his head and shoulders and receiving serious injury, since which time he has not only been confined to his house, but has been slowly failing in health and strength. Desiring to make some slight change in his will and realizing that his earth-life was nearing its close, a phone message was sent to Justice of the Peace E. B. Lapham, informing him that his services were required. A few minutes later, Mr. Lapham called at the home, as requested, the changes in his will were made, when it was discovered that no uninterested party was present to sign the document as a witness, and Leland Thompson, who resides across the street, was requested by phone to go over and sign his name to the will as a witness. In answering the phone, Mr. Thompson said that he would be over in a few minutes, but before his arrival, Mr. Wright was seized with a sinking spell and passed away a few minutes later. Deceased was born in Hoosick, Rensselaer County, N. Y., Oct. 19, 1842. About a year later, he came to Michigan with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Abner Wright, locating on land on the north side of West Ellis avenue and north of Peck’s Hill, where he has since resided. In the fall of 1863, Mr. Wright was married to Miss Loretta Weeks, sister to L. H. Weeks, Mrs. P. F. Curtis and Mrs. John B. Arnwine. To this union, three children were born, as follows; Mrs. Eva Divine and Mrs. Cora Talmage, both of Chicago; and Claud C. Wright, of this city. His wife died in 1877. A year or two later, he was married to Miss Rose Malinda Wright of Bowne township, Kent county. To this union three children were born, as follows: Harley, who resides on the farm, Alvin, who resides in California; and Mrs. Ona Drummond, who resides in Grand Rapids. Besides his widow and children, he leaves to morn their loss, two sisters and one brother, as follows; Mrs. A. C. Shaw and P. G. Wright of this city and Mrs. Ruth Jacox, of Britton S. D. Mr. Wright was numbered among our best citizens. He was strictly honest in his dealings with others – an obliging neighbor and a true friend – esteemed and respected by all who knew him. Funeral services were held at his late home at two o’clock last Sunday afternoon, conducted by Rev. W. E. Doty. Interment in the Otisco cemetery.
