WRIGHT, PASSES AWAY AT HIS HOME THURSDAY NIGHT News was received this morning of the death of E.J. Wright, at Lansing following a stroke of paralysis, some months ago. Mr. Wright will be remembered by Ionians as editor and business manager of The Sentinel for a short period about 22 years ago. He also edited and published a book in the form of a directory and business manual entitled, "Ionia in 1891" which is to this day an authoritative book of references on all subjects treated at that time. The following preface is from the original publication: "Ionia in 1891" originated in the desire of the people of Ionia, and especially of the business men, for a directory of the city, none having been published since 1882. Soon after the work was decided upon, a proposition was made to include in the volume the charter of the city, which had been amended three times since it was printed for the city in 1885. this proposition received the unanimous accord of the common council, who, by resolution, provided for including both the charter and ordinances in the volume. The scope of the work has been greatly enlarged since it was first projected, and as issued the volume is a comprehensive gazetteer of the city. The descriptive pages and those devoted to the various interests of the city and its people, comprising the official roster, the commercial and manufacturing institutions, the churches, fraternities, societies, etc., will be found valuable for present and future reference, and will, I trust, be of interest to all to whose hands this volume may come. The directory has been prepared with great care, a complete canvass of the city having been made for this part of the work. Nothing shows the character of a city more truly than the announcements of its business men and the pages herein devoted to such matter are well worth of perusal. The liberality of the business and professional men in the substantial encouragement they have given the publisher has enabled him to produce a volume of which he realizes no reason to be ashamed and that is a credit to all interested." While a resident of this city, Mr. Wright became a member of Ionia council, Royal Arcanum, No. 623, and served as secretary of the order which membership is in force at the present time. He was married while a resident of this city, Mrs. Wright dying in Lansing about two weeks ago. Arrangements for the funeral will be announced later, but it is understood here that the remains of Mrs. Wright are now in a receiving vault at Lansing and both will be brought here fur burial in Highland Park.
