JAMES WRIGHT DIES EARLY TUESDAY MORNING ---------------- ANOTHER OLD PIONEER RESIDENT PASSES AWAY. FUNERAL YESTERDAY AT M. E. CHURCH After a long siege of illness Mr. James Wright died from cancer of the stomach Wednesday morning at six o'clock. For weeks and months Mr. Wright has been under the care of Drs. Crane and McIntyre with the hope of recovery from a stomach trouble and the family were hopeful of his recovery until the last, but all medical skill is baffled by this disease which eventually means sure death. Mr. Wright is an old and much respected pioneer of Lake Odessa being one of the original settlers of the township. He leaves a widow, six daughters and one son. The funeral was held in the M. E. church Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Moore of Chicago, a nephew of Mr. Wright, preaching the sermon. He was assisted in the service by Rev. Thos. Laity the pastor. A quartette consisting of Mr. and Mrs. Thos. Johnson, Mrs. A. J. Dann and Mr. B. . Segar with Miss Bessie Brown as organist furnished the music. Burial was at Lakeside Cemetery. See obituary next week. OBITUARY James A Wright was born in Java, New York in 1838, son of Luther and Milly Wright. He was the youngest of the family. His brother Charles, a Union soldier died in 1861, his sister Mrs. Malvina Durkee, died in 1895; the surviving sister Mrs. Mary W. Moore is living in Denver, Colorado. In 1856 the family moved to Odessa Township, Ionia county where on the farm originally taken, Mrs. Wright lived continuously for 46 years. In 1901 he moved to Lake Odessa and lived her until his death January 29, 1913. He was married to Miss Ambia Williams of Rochester, New York May 24th 1871. Eight children were born of this union, one, Charles dying in infancy. Those remaining are Mrs. Eva Llewellyn, Galesburg, Mich; Mrs. Marian Cale, Lake Odessa; Mrs. James Nelson Wright, Saranac; Mrs. Lillian McMillan, Tekonsha; Mrs. Mildred Beegan, Detroit; Miss Jessica Wright Glendive, Montana; and Miss Alce Wright, Rochester, New York. "Jimmy" Wright as he was best known was a familiar figure the country side thru, having for 56 years bought stock of the settlers. During the most of this period he carried on his farm work but later laid it down for more freedom to carry on the work he so much enjoyed and for which he seemed to have a peculiar genius. His last load of stock was shipped only six days before his death. Mr. Wright was known as a man of strictest honor and his word was one thing never doubted. For many years he was chosen as often as the law allowed for Trueaurer of his Township, one friendly Irishman down north declining to vote a ticket until assured that Jimmy Wright's name was there. This mild mannered man, so shy that few knew him was much misunderstood as to his belief. He lived another life than that seen - a life of quiet insistent thought and firm condition of faith in God undimmed by hardship of which he had a plenty, and while he did not attend church he was a religious man in the best sense of that term. Tho he talked little he lived much of that spirit that means flife and life abundant. The funeral was held in the M. E. church and in accordance with the expressed wishes of Mr. Wright his nephew, Rev. Walter Howard Moore of Chicago conducted the service, assisted by Rev. Thomas Laity and interment was in Lakeside cemetery. --------------- CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank the many dear neighbors and friends who so kindly assisted us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father, also the ministers, singers, those who furnished carriages, and for the many beautiful flowers.
