Wright Ex-Resident Dies In California Miss Bernice O.Wright, 62, a former resident of this city, passed away May 27 in the Veterans Administration hospital in Long Beach,Calif.. She had surgery in January and had been ill since then. Before her death she donated her eyes to the Long Beach eye bank. Bernice came to this city with her mother and three sisters and a brother in July, 1910 and they reside with an older sister, Eunice Wright Skanes. She attended school here until sickness caused her to leave school for a time and then she went to Johnson Bible School in Knoxville, Tenn. and completed the seventh grade through the 11th and then came back here to complete her high school and graduate. She took her nurses training at Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids and graduated as a RN in 1927 and served several years there before becoming an Army nurse.She retuned to the annual Butterworth alumni meetings nearly every year She took post graduate work in Waverly, Mass, and Baylor university in Texas. Bernice served three years as 2nd Lt. in the second World War and was stationed in Africa, Sicily and Italy. After the ward she worked in a Veterans hospital in Dearborn and Ft. Barrett, N.M. After another serious illness she lived with her brother.Dr.Guy Wright and Mrs.wright in Eugene, Ore. for a time. The last three years she was employed at the National Benevolent Association for the Aged in San Gabriel, Calif. Military funeral was held in Long Beach,Calif., with burial in the Veteran's Administration Cemetery at W.Los Angeles with full military honors. Survivors include one brother Dr.Guy T.Wright, a professor at Christian church College in Eugene, Ore. and three sisters, Mrs.Charles (Eunice) Skanes, Phoenix, Ariz., Mrs.Leo (Winifred)Francisco, Lansing, and Miss Irene Wright, Washington, D.C.
