Ionia Sentinel-Standard - Mon. July 11, 1977

IONIA- Roy C. Witzel, 82, of 171 Adams Street, died early Sunday evening at 
Ferguson-Droste-Ferguson hospital in Grand Rapids after being a patient there 
three weeks.

He was born in Ionia, February 6, 1895, the son of John and Emma Duffy Witzel 
and was a lifelong resident of Ionia. 

A veteran of World War I, he served with the Army in the European Theater.

He was employed for many years at Ypsilanti Reed and was custodian at the Elks 
Lodge.

He married the former Martha Coulson June 23, 1927. They recently celebrated 
their golden wedding anniversary.

Mr. Witzel was a member of the SS Peter and Pau church, Ionia, Veterans of 
Foreign Wars and a life member of the Ionia Elks.

Survivors include his wife and two brothers, John and George of Ionia.

One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.

Services are Wednesday at 11 am from SS Peter and Paul church with Rev. Father 
Henry Dondzilla officiating. 

Burial is in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Parish rosary will be recited at the Leddick funeral home Tuesday at 7 pm.

The family will receive friends and relatives Tuesday 2 to 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm 
at the funeral home.
