Susan was born on Nov. 14, 1924, in Dedrod Translyvania, Romania, the daughter of Michael and Maria (Goettfert) Schotsch. She was married on Jan. 29, 1949, in Germany to Henry Wuerfel. In 1952, Susan, Henry and their daughter Gisela left Germany for a new life in the United States, settling in Swatara, Minnesota. A year later, the family moved to Lansing where they lived for several years. She attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Lansing, loved to sew, knit, crochet, cook and bake. Susan was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 2011, her parents, a half brother Hans Goetfert and a sister Maria Schotsch. Susan is loved and survived by her children, Gisela (Gary) Knowlton of Belding, Harold (Cathy) Wuerfel of Rockford and Edwin (Carolyn) Wuerfel of Holt, five grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and a brother, John Grum of Charlotte, NC. Graveside funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 13, 2015, at the chapel of Chapel Hills Memorial Gardens on Grand River Avenue, in Lansing. No visitation will take place. Memorials may be given to the Ionia Seventh Day Adventist Community Service Center. Envelopes will be available at Chapel or at Johnson-Feuerstein Funeral Home, Belding, where funeral care has been entrusted.
