Herbert E. Wylie, 88, former Methodist church pastor at Lyons, who died Wednesday afternoon at Manor hospital of Clark Memorial Home, was held Friday morning at Clark Memorial Home chapel in Grand Rapids. Burial was at Elm Hall at 2 p.m. Rev. Wylie was born in Sparta and attended Alma college. His first pastorate was at Alba Methodist church beginning 53 years in the ministry. He served at Elm Hall several years, also at Maple Rapids, Bath, Union City and Center Eaton. Following his retirement from the ministry, Rev. Wylie, with his wife, the former Emma Hyde of Elm Hall whom he married in 1902, came to Lyons where they lived until they went to Grand Rapids to Clark Memorial Home. Rev. Wylie supplied as minister in both Florida and Michigan churches since his retirement. Surviving besides his wife, Emma, are three sons, William C. Wylie of Allen Park, Lawrence V. of Clio, and Edward H. of Flint; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
