About ten years ago he was “born of the spirit,” and soon afterward united with the M. E. church, and has ever since lived a devoted Christian life. His religion was seen in his everyday life, and extended into all his business transactions. His piety was steady and active. It did not flash out with great brilliancy in the midst of revival seasons and favorable surroundings and then die away, but it burned with a steady increasing light, telling to all with whom he associated that Jesus was his daily companion. The estimation in which he was held in the community in which he lived, the position which he occupied in the church, the faithfulness in which he performed his duties, and suddenness of his death, the companion who has shared in his joys and sorrows being now left alone, render his fall peculiarly affecting. A short time before he expired he said to one of his neighbors who was standing by his bedside, “It is all bright.” As I think of his upright deportment and holy life during the three years of my acquaintance with him, I can truly say “He was a good man, and full of the Holy Ghost, and of faith.” His funeral took place at Sebewa the 15th inst. and was largely attended.
