Ionia County News, 17 Apr 1924

The funeral of Gilbert S. Yates, 81, pioneer resident of Ionia county, who died 
last Sunday at noon, was held from the home of his son, G. Lee Yates, 332 West 
Washington street, on Wednesday afternoon.  Rev. E. P. Arthur of Ann Arbor, 
assisted by Rev. J. H. Green of Ionia, has charge of the service.

Mr. Yates had been in poor health for a number of years.  He had resided in 
Ionia for a number of years.  He was born at Nickelplate.  For three decades he 
had been a traveling salesman for a concern handling agricultural implements.  
He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Masonic lodge.

Besides his widow, Mr. Yates is survived by four children, Dr. L. Wing Yates of 
Waukegan, Ill.; Frances Yates-Williams of Cleveland; Sarah Hicks of Santa 
Monica, Calif.; and G. Lee Yates of Ionia.
