Wave, Wed. Nov. 30, 1983 OKEMOS- George Bruce York of Okemos, died on Nov. 12. York was the son of Ernest and Pearl (Bever) York. He grew up in Grand Rapids but his family spent many summers in lake Odessa. His father plotted an area along the beach, and Virginia Street was names for the older daughter. The senior Mr. York had the lighthouse built in 1939, and son Bruce operated a rental business in pop, sandwiches, ice cream, boat rental and bait the first year. Mr. Bruce York was certified by the American Academy of Art in Chicago in 1942. He served in WWII and in 1948 received his degree in journalism from Michigan State College. He was with Duo-Therm division of Motor Wheel and then the John Henry Company. He founded his won company, York Advertising, which merged with Jepson-Murray (later known as Aviso) in 1961 and moved from vice-president to president of the company. He retired twelve days before his death from Aviso, Inc. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son, Steve of Pasadena, Cal.; a daughter, Patricia of Okemos and a sister, Valarie Addison of White Pigeon. The body was cremated and there was no service.
