He was born July 6, 1927, in Detroit, the son of Lloyd and Winifred Neil Young. He attended schools in Detroit and Clarksville and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was employed at Eaton Manufacturing Co., Battle Creek, for 30 years before his retirement in 1980. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Hastings. Surviving are two daughters, T/Sgt. Catherine Ann Vasquez, serving with the U.S. Air Force in the Philippines, and Susan Louise Snoeink of Vermontville, and several grandchildren. Also surviving is his mother, Winifred (Peg) Young of Clarksville and a sister, Mrs. William (Audrey) Zang, of West Branch. A son, Scott, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Clarksville Wesleyan church, with the Rev. Arthur Ruder officiating. Burial will be in Clarksville Cemetery. The family will be at the Koops Funeral Chapel, Lake Odessa, Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. The body will lie in state at the church from 10 a.m. Thursday until service time.
