Gerald Lynn Young, 71, of Ludington, formerly of Ionia, passed away Dec. 12, 
2013.  He was born Aug. 20, 1942, in Belding to the late Wilson L. and Irene M. 
(Hawkins) Young.  He graduated from Ionia High School in 1961. 

Gerald married Shirley A. (Ferris) in 1964 at the Methodist church in Lyons.  A 
veteran of the U.S. Army, he was general supervisor at General Motors in 
Lansing for 35 years.  He was a member of the Portland VFW and enjoyed golfing, 
fishing and hunting. 

Gerald is survived by his wife, Shirley; daughters, Charlene (Mark) Hickok, 
Darcey (Jamus) VanVleet and Nicola (Jeremy) Smith; grandsons, Jordon and Logen 
Thomas, Braitin and Bryent Ramirez, and Justin (Laura) Franks; granddaughters, 
Jazmin and Destiny Hickok, and Madison Smith; great granddaughter, Lily Franks; 
great grandson, Jayden Franks; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his twin brother, Lawrence Young; and 
brother, Richard Young.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Lehman 
Funeral Homes in Ionia (formerly Cooks), officiated by Pastor Jeffrey Smith.  
Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Muir immediately following the service.  
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the funeral home.  
Memorials contributions in Gerald's name may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of 
America.
