Lake Odessa Wave-Thurs. April 16, 1970

Former Resident Dies at Pontiac
Mrs. Emma Jane Young, 73, a former Lake Odessa resident for many years, passed away
at the Orchard Lake Beverly Nursing Home at Pontiac, following a long illness.

She was born in Stockton, Utah, April 26, 1893, a daughter of John and Emma Henwood.

Her husband was Adam Hill who passed away in 1919. She married Charles Young of 
Portland, Oregon in 1923 and they came to lake Odessa in 1925. She resided here many
years after his death, March 12, 1948.

Mrs. Young was a long-time employee of the Lake Odessa Canning company until she 
retired because of her health.

A Charter member of both the Blue Star Mothers chapter and the LaVerne Demaray unit
of the American Legion Auxiliary, she was also a member of the Latter Day Saints church
of Hastings.

Surviving are three sons, John Hill of Grand Rapids, Gerald Hill of Pontiac, and
Rodney Young of lake Odessa; fifteen grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; a brother ,
Fred Henwood of Perris, calif.; and five sisters, Mrs. Mary Murray of Tooele, Utah, Mrs.
Wesley (Irene) Reader of Brigham, Utah, Mrs. Kenneth (Lucille) Knight of Oakland, Calif.,
Mrs. Lillian Vaharsdail of Bell Gardens, Calif., and Mrs. Rex (Fern) Shellenbarger of San
Bernadino, Calif.

Funeral services were held on Thursday (today) at the Pickens Chapel, lake Odessa at
1:30 with Bishop John W. Hughes officiating with burial in lakeside cemetery.
