Younger, Ionia County Pioneer. Death, Friday night, sounded taps for William D. Younger, 84, veteran of the Civil War, and well known Ronald township farmer, following several months of illness complicated by the weaknesses of age. Mr. Younger was one of the original native pioneers of the township in which he lives. His parents were among the first settlers there to take up land grants from the government when Ionia county first was being settled. He has lived on the farm since birth, with the exception of the years in which he was fighting in the Civil War. He was a member of Company D, Third Michigan Cavalry in which he enlisted at Detroit at the opening of the war. He and his brother were stationed at a post in Arkansas later in the war and both were stricken with malaria the brother dying from the malady. Funeral services were held from the farm home Monday afternoon Rev. Joseph Green, of Ionia, officiating. Burial was in Highland Park cemetery. He is survived by his son James.
