Youngs, age 77, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2005 at Muskegon’s Hackley VNS Hospice House. Born to William H. and Edna (Thorpe) Youngs in Saranac, Michigan, on June 13, 1928, Bill grew up in Ionia, Michigan and graduated from Ionia High School. He married Alice M. Campbell of Saranac on April 3, 1948, in Grand Rapids. They raised two daughters. Bill’s employment with the State of Michigan took the family from Ionia to Battle Creek in 1964, and then to Muskegon in 1977. He retired in 1988 as a computer systems analyst for the Department of Mental Health. As children, he and his sister entertained in south Central Michigan as the musical duo Billy and Beverly, and his interest in music remained a constant. Bill loved sports and enjoyed watching local sports, especially baseball, with the same enthusiasm he brought to professional games. His sense of fair play and his honesty were qualities that touched everyone he knew. Bill was preceded in death six months ago by his wife Alice, and by both of his parents. He is survived by his daughter Kathryn Rabbitt of Muskegon and Linda (Greg) Pyott of Cocoa, FL; grandson, Joseph (Carrie) Rabbitt of South Bend, Indiana; sister, Beverly (Roger) Scheidt of Kalamazoo; the many brothers and sisters-in-law he gained through his beloved wife Alice; countless nieces and nephews; and a great many friends made over the years who were the beneficiaries of his generous spirit and dry wit. Visitation will be held at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue (231) 726-5210 in Muskegon today, October 1, 2005 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac, MI on Monday, October 3, 2005 at 11 a.m. with a luncheon to follow. Burial will take place in Saranac Cemetery. Donations in Bill’s memory may be made to the Hackley VNS Hospice of Muskegon.
