He was born Jan. 9, 1928, in East Grand Rapids the son of Harry and Margretta (Schunneson) Ypma. John served in the United States Marine Corp serving during World War II and Korean Wars. He retired as a Draftsman in the Engineering Dept. for the State of Michigan. John loved to golf, bowl, read and boat. He was honest, dependable, independent, and was adored by his family. John married Margaret Wells in 1953 she preceded him in death in 1998. He married Phyllis Sindecuse in 2001. John is survived by his wife, Phyllis Ypma of Saranac. Granddaughters, Sherri (Duane) Sobers of Muskegon and Tracy Devers of Saranac. Great Grandsons, Tyler Kuch, Jordan Kuch and Christopher Devers. Daughter in law, Karen Ypma of Grand Ledge. Children, Faith (Ken) Mouthaan of Kent City, Mary (Tom) Williams of Grant, Nancy LaDuke (Rick DiBrano) of Woodhaven, John (Kim) Sindecuse of Kent City and Master Sergeant Roger (Cindy) Sindecuse of Luxembourg. 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Brother, Harry (Bonnie) Ypma of Middleville. Brothers and Sisters in laws, Roger (Betty) Wells of California, Marylee Fullerton of Arizona, Jerry (Karen) Wells of Beaverton, Sallianne (Lou) McConnell of Greenville and Lois Lillibridge and Leon Johnson of Sparta. Niece, Roxanne Herbst of Kalamazoo and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Margaret, son Danny K Ypma, Father and Mother in laws Floyd and Lena Wells and Clarence and Mildred Emelander. Brothers and Sisters in law Marjorie Guy, Roger and Nancy Wells, Jim & June Wells, David Fullerton, Beulah Wells, and Larry Lillibridge. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 24, 2015, at 11 a.m. at the West Berlin Wesleyan Church with Pastors Mark Lipscomb and Jerry Wells officiating. Interment at Saranac Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday 4-7 p.m. at the Lake Funeral Home in Saranac. Those wishing may make memorial contributions to Widowed Friends Association 96 Jason Ridge Ct.
