The Ionia Sentinel-Standard, Wednesday, August 2, 1989

Francis C. (Swede) Zander, 76, of Beaverton, died July 31 at his home 
following a lengthy illness.  He was born July 1, 1913 in Detroit.  He was co-
owner of Houghton’s Beef in Ionia until his retirement in 1978.  He married 
Carol M. Drown Jan. 25, 1974 in Ionia.  She survives him.

Also surviving are three sons, Dennis Zander of Grattan, Gary Zander of Grass 
Lake, and Gale Zander of Orleans; two daughters, Mrs. Ed (Joyce) Rutz of 
Saranac, Mrs. Louis (Linda)  Agostini of Ionia; two step-sons, Thomas Keitz of 
Highland and William Barkus of Marietta, S.C.; two step-daughters, Mrs. Ted 
(Carol) Edlin of Ionia and Patrece Thorp of Ionia; 38 grandchildren; 43 great-
grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Zander of Ionia.  One brother, LaVerne 
Zander, preceded him in death.  

Private interment service will be held at Highland Cemetery in Ionia.  
Arrangements are by the Hall Funeral Home in Gladwin.
