The Ionia Standard, Friday, September 24, 1909

Mrs. M. Zart of Baldie street, who went to Grand Rapids on Friday evening last 
to visit  her daughters, Mrs. John Gillis and Mrs. Paul Fierle, was stricken 
suddenly upon her arrival, (in fact was unable to recognize by night when she 
entered the house) passed away on Saturday afternoon, spinal meningitis being 
given as the cause.  The remains were brought to Ionia on Monday, and the 
funeral was attended from the Church of SS. Peter & Paul on Tuesday morning at 
9 o’clock.  The carriers from deport were Messrs. W. H. Hearsey, Frank M. 
Wirtz, Thos. F. McGannon, Roman Steinberg.

There was a large funeral at the Church of SS. Peter & Paul Tuesday for Mrs. 
M. Zart, and many mourning friends followed the remains to their last earthly 
resting place in the parish cemetery.
