Zeigler, of Portage, died August 7, 2003 in Kalkaska County from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Evelyn was born July 27, 1923 in Traverse City, the youngest of five children to Thomas and Birdie (Chichester) Smith. On April 11, 1946 in Ionia, she as united in married with Harold Zeigler Sr. who preceded her in death on March 11, 1995. She as active with the Borgess Service League, the Kalamazoo Symphony Orchestra League, the Women’s Lioness Club and was past chairperson of the Borgess Open Heart Golf Classic. Time spent with friends and family was important to her. She also enjoyed sharing a meal with friends, telling a good joke or spending time reading and wintering in Scottsdale Arizona. She as a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, Portage. Preceding her in death along with her husband was a grandson, Timothy, two sisters, Loetia and Guyla and one brother Theo. Surviving are three children, Harold Jr. (Bonnie) Zeigler of Kalamazoo, Scott Zeigler of Kalamazoo, Chris Zeigler of Mt. Pleasant, one grandson, Aaron (Bonnie) Zeigler of Kalamazoo, one great-grandson Avery, one brother, Delbert (Phyllis) Smith of Ionia, and several nieces and nephews. Cremation will take place. Friends will be received Sunday 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Betzler Funeral Homes, Stadium Drive, West of US-131. Phone number (269) 375-2900. A celebration of Life Service will be held Monday 11 a.m. at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in portage with food and fellowship immediately following at the church fellowship hall.
