Portland Review - Sunday, April 7, 2013

Alice Tatha Zuverink, age 84, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2013. She was 
born on May 25, 1928 the daughter of Raymond and Margaret (Breece) Rhines. 
Alice was a licensed beautician and owned her own shop in Bath, Michigan in the 
early 1960's. She was co-owner of the Ponderosa Sports Center in DeWitt, 
Michigan in the 1970s. In the early 1980's she moved to Placeda, Florida with 
her husband Doug. She was also an active member of the American Legion Post in 
Rotunda West, Florida, where she held the position of Sargeant of Arms. She 
attended the First Congregational Church of Portland, Michigan. Alice enjoyed 
doing counted cross stitching of Lavender & Lace Angels. She was an avid fan of 
the Tigers and MSU basketball, and enjoyed spending time with her children, 
grandchildren, and step grandchildren. All of her family and extended family 
were important to her. She will be greatly missed by all of her family, 
extended family were important to her. She will be greatly missed by all of her 
family, extended family and friends that she has made throughout her life.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Douglas Smith on September 8, 
1945; husband, Harold "Hop" Zuverink in 1992 (whom she married on September 12, 
1992). Surviving are her children, Terry (Jeannette) Smith, Roger (Pam) Smith, 
Kendall (Kathy) Smith and Susan (Steve) Platte House; 19 grandchildren; 32 
great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren.

The Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, April 12, 2013 a the 
First Congregational Church, 421 E. Bridge Street, Portland, with Rev. Dr. 
Marilyn V. Danielson presiding. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. 
until the time of the service Friday at the church. Arrangements are entrusted 
to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland. On line condolences may be made at
