Clifford, and his half brother - Burt Clifford. The tombstone was sheared off at the top and the only WAL and FORD is visable in a semi-circle. Additional Comments: For many years, this marker for Walter Clifford went unnoticed. There is no marker for military service. He was a Civil War Veteran and died at the age of 23, shortly after returning home from the war. He enlisted on Aug. 9, 1862 in Ionia, MI at the age of 19. He served with Michigan 21st Infantry, Comp. D. Walter mustered out in Washington DC on June 8, 1865. He died on Dec.1, 1865 and it is not known where or how he died.
