There have been several recordings of this cemetery over they past 25 years, none seem complete and accurate, so all have been included in this listing. In addition the cemetery was video tape in June 1994 by James Donaldson, however this has not been published yet. Indian-1: Recorded Jun 17 1979 by Chet & Mary Jane Trout; published in the magazine Family Trails, Michigan Department of Education, vol 6 no 2 Winter 1979, p23. Recording of tombstones, with an indication that most graves were unmarked. Indian-2: Recorded by the late Jerry Wagner of Oscoda Michigan sometime in the late 1980s. Jerry Wagner walked the cemetery with several old timers who knew by memory where certain persons were buried, and they did not have markers. This record includes both those graves without and those graves with markers, and there is no distinction between them. Also, there are no dates in this record. Jerry noted many graves were unknown. Jerry's handwritten notes and the arbitrarily assigned plot/section sketches are in the custody of the AuSable-Oscoda Historical Society. For further information contact society members Mary Jane Hennigar 517-739-5356 or Patricia Sherman 515-739-3650. Indian-3. Recorded by Emogene Wright of East Tawas MI about 1989, and her daughter Lennie Lammie. This is a recording of tombstones. Indian-4. Recorded Aug 24 1960 by James Glen Donaldson, 16208 Harlow, Detroit MI 48235, phone 313-835-2440 (after 4pm). This is a recording of tombstones. He noted most graves were not marked. Indian-5. Taken from a pamphlet title History of the Oscoda Indian Settlement and Mission, written by Hazel Lavoie, undated. She indicated there was also an old burial ground located West across the road from the church where Mamacchewung and seven other indians were buried; no markers, but the area is fenced. Indian-6. The cemetery was partly recorded in 1993 by Mary Jane Hennigar of Oscoda MI, phone 517-739-5356. Only those entries that added information to the above records were extracted for this listing. Laidlaw Family Cemetery (Private). Located on the boarder of Sections 16 & 17 Tawas Township (T22N/R7E). This cemetery is on private property. Make arrangements with Nancy Huck, 1395 Laidlaw, Tawas City MI 48763, 517-362-6344. A 1989 map of the cemetery which indicates it started in 1872, and tombstone recordings and records which show maiden names and other relations of the persons listed, was given to the Huron Shores Genealogical Society by Nancy Huck. The cemetery is maintained by a trust. This map and recordings are available at the Robert J Parks Public Library. Pine Top Rest Cemetery. For exclusive use of the Haire family as a private burial ground. Purchased November 18 1960 by Jerome K Haire in trust from Jerome K Haire and wife Regina H Haire of 410 Chilson, Bay City MI. Cemetery is located in the NE corner of the forty acres described as the NW 1/4 of NE 1/4 of Section 24 T22N-R6E Grant Township: Commencing at the NE corner of said forty acres, thence South 7 rods, thence West 10 rods, thence North 7 rods, thence East 10 rods, to the point of beginning (Iosco County Deeds, Liber 145 Page 361). Location from M-55, go 1 mile N on Chambers Rd, and 1/4 mile W on Miller Rd, cemetery is on South side behind trees. Recorded in Sep 1993 by James Donaldson, Huron Shore Genealogical Society. Pioneer Plains Cemetery. James Ryan was buried in this cemetery, located on the plains near the townline, which is Chambers Road, Sec 18 Wilber Township (T23N/R7E). Information from page 23 of Their Yesterdays's by Edna M Otis, 1948. Exact location not known, no boundaries or tombstones have been found. No other burials are known. Poor Farm Cemetery, Iosco County. Several records refer to a cemetery on the county poor farm, located on Spartan Road in the southern part of section 10 Tawas Twp (T22N R7E). The first legal reference to its location is in the May 12 1921 indenture in the Iosco County Deeds Libre 63 page 599, where the county sold 25 acres of the poor farm but excepting the cemetery: From the common corner of Sections 10, 11, 14 & 15 Of Tawas Township (T22NR7E), then starting 37 1/2 rods E of the 1/4 post between sections 10 and 15 as a place of beginning then running east 5 rods, then north 2 rods and 12 feet, then west 5 rods, then south 2 rods 12 feet to the beginning, in Sec 10 (T22N/R7E). The above location of the cemetery is still in the indenture of the current owner of the property. The cemetery has recently been survey by Iosco County, and corner monuments have bee installed. The Huron Shores Genealogical Society Member Harold Burtzloff keeps the area mowed. There is no known list of burials. Although some burials shown in the journals of the Superintendents of the Poor and the Keeper of The Poor on the Poor Farm, could be interpreted as being buried in this cemetery. The 18 persons listed in this booklet are not confirmed burials in the Poor Farm Cemetery. However, it appears reasonable to assume some are buried in the Poor Farm Cemetery. These are names shown in the 1874-1893 Journal kept by the Keeper of the Poor, the title given to the manager of the County Poor Farm. When entries in his journal refer to money being spent on a person for a casket, a undertaker, a doctor bill at his death, or digging a grave, the name is included. Poor Farm-1. The Thompson Farm cemetery is inactive, possible as many as 50 burials but in 1991 only 3 markers. The Plainfield Township Clerk has no records for this cemetery, which use to be in both Thompson and Oscoda Townships prior to being in Plainfield Twp. No administrator.
