In 1832 he married Caroline Greyer and moved to the State of Ohio, where he resided 26 years. He then moved with his family to Michigan and located on the farm known as the "Phillips farm," now the Darins Holden farm, in the township of Ronald. After living there eight years he retired from farming and took up his abode in Ionia, where he has since lived. He was the father of eleven children, of whom four sons and three daughters survive him. They are: Fred, Jacob, Louis P., Chas. M., Mrs. Jacob Schmoltz, Mrs. E. Zank and Mrs. Jules Taubert, all of Ionia. He also leaves twenty-five grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. He was a genial companionable man and held the respect of who enjoyed his acquaintances and as a husband and father he was among the kindest.
