He graduated from Coleman High School in 1940 and spent a year at Central Michigan University in Mt Pleasant MI before he was drafted into the US Army in February of 1943. While serving in the 13th Airborne Division he spent 7 months in Sens, France. He returned to CMU after he was discharged from service in 1946. While there Fran earned a bachelor of arts degree and then attended University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; graduating in 1954 with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. In August of 1942, Fran married his first wife Marion Kinney which later ended in divorce in the year of 1970 but also the marriage produced a son. In February of 1973, Fran married Elizabeth Schumacher with whom he spent the remainder of his years raising their two sons to be accomplished individuals with families to carry on the venerable Bashore family name. Francis spent his working career diligently dedicated to whatever his job required of him. The recipients of his loyalty were The Dow Chemical Company, the Midland County Health Department, and Dow Corning. Some years later in 1963, Fran began working for the State of Michigan Department of Transportation in the testing and research division. When he retired from that position in 1985, he moved his loving family from Lansing Michigan to the family centennial farm in Coleman, Michigan. Fran enjoyed many pasttimes. He was a lifetime member of the Coleman VFW Post 1071, the American Legion Post 530 of Lansing, the 13th Airborne Division Association, George L Hildreth Chapter in Lansing. He also was a lifetime member of the 82nd Airborne Division, Mid Michigan Chapter and marched in their color guard. Among his most pleasurable pasttimes was being an active member of the Mid Michigan Eagles Ultralight Club and the Michigan Ultralight Association. Francis died from a heart related episode and was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Glen T and Clare. He was survived by his wife, 2 sons, 2 granddaughters and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were provided by O'Laughlin Funeral Home of Coleman MI and were held on April 3, 2003.
