Jackson Semi-Weekly Citizen Jan 12, 1897
Died: Smith, at his home in Blackman, Wednesday Jan 6 Mr. Thomas Jefferson 
Smith of pneumonia, aged 76. Mr. Smith was born in Wheeler, Steuben County, NY, 
Feb 4, 1821. At the age of 25 he married and came to Michigan, locating in 
Sandstone Twp. where he remained two years and a half, when he returned to New 
York State. In 1862 he removed to Jackson County settling in Blackman: where he 
has resided ever since with the exception of two years when he lived in Rives.
He had patented several useful articles. Widow and three sons, Frank O and 
Harley M. of Jackson and Alfred J. of Blackman, survive him.

The funeral will be held at the residence at 10 o'clock Saturday. Rev. E.C. 
Tallar officiating. The internment will take place at the Jones Cemetery in 
Rives.
