L. CRYAN - Seabee Mortally Hurt in Automobile Accident - Matthew Leo CRYAN, 36, Kalamazoo Seabee, died Tuesday of injuries suffered as the result of an autombile accident in California, according to a telegram received from the United States Navy department by his wife, Norene. Seabee CRYAN, a carpenter’s mate second class, died in the naval hospital at Shoemaker, Calif. of injuries, multiple and extreme, the telegram stated, but details of the accident were not disclosed. Saw Overseas Duty - He enlisted in the Seabees in November, 1942 and took his boot training at Davisville, Rhode Island, saw overseas duty in March and April, and after contracting malaria returned to Kalamazoo for a month’s furlough last July. He had returned to Camp Park, Calif. for active duty. Matthew CRYAN was born in Kalamazoo, graduated from St. Augustine high school and was a member of the St. Augustine church and Knights of Columbus. He was a brick mason by trade and had lived in Kalamazoo until his enlistment. Surviving Family - Surviving, besides the wife, the former, Norene BYINGTON, whom he married here Oct. 3, 1936, are his mother, Mrs. M. J. CRYAN, Kalamazoo; four sisters, Miss Mary CRYAN, Kalamazoo; Sister M. Casilda of the St. Joseph Order of Nazareth; Mrs. Helena BAUERS (sic) of Laporte Ind., and Mrs. Winfred SCHUMERS of Southern Pines, N. C., a sister-in-law, Mrs. Margaret CRYAN of Mendon; two aunts, one niece and and one nephew. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by the Donovan Funeral Home. Matthew CRYAN’S services Tuesday - Funeral Services for Matthew Leo CRYAN, Carpenter’s Mate, Second Class, will be held at the St. Augustine Church at 9 Next Tuesday Morning. Seaman CRYAN, who enlisted in the Seabees in November, 1942, died Tuesday in the United States Naval Hospital, Shoemaker, Calif., from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in California.
